Life and the world changes, but God never changes. The bible states that the Lord is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). His Word is filled with hope for the oppressed, weary and overwhelmed. In Luke 21:33, we are reminded that heaven and earth shall pass away, but His Word shall not pass away. We are His beloved. Although the world’s economy is struggling, our true source is Jehovah Jireh, our provider. Even though our situation may not seem like it, we can focus on God’s Word and look beyond problems in life because they are temporal. (2 Cor 4:18 )
One of the reasons we become so discouraged and crushed when we experience loss
in the natural is because we place our trust on things in the natural. We must recognize, receive and acknowledge our true source. The bible continually reminds us of where to place our trust (Psalms 9:10, 37:3, 119:42, Proverbs 3:5, Isaiah 12:2).
In the 3rd chapter of Lamentations, Jeremiah takes the first 20 verses to express his pain, sorrow, and disappointments at his situation. However, in the 21st verse he says “but I recall, when I think about it, the steadfast love of God never ceases because morning by morning, new mercies I see”. The Lord is my portion, therefore my hope is in Him.”
One of the reasons we can trust God in times like these is because God has a track record. Each one of us can think of something God has delivered us from, some blessing and favor He has bestowed. God has no lack. He is all sufficient. He has plenty of houses, cars, jobs and land to give us. We must look to the hills from whence cometh our help. He has great things prepared for those who will trust in His provision.
You may ask, “How can I do that?” The bible says if we need wisdom we can ask for it, just like Solomon did. In the book of James it says we have not because we ask not. Sometimes we cry about it, worry about it, tell our family, friends and prayer partners about it, but we never go to God, pray and ask Him what to do about it. There is a lesson to be learned in every experience, because God does nothing without purpose. He knows the end from the beginning of everything He allows to happen in our lives.
He has a way of escape for everything we go through. He says to Ask, Seek and Knock. We just need to do the work of asking so we receive, seeking so we can find, and knocking so the doors can be opened unto us.
When the world around us begins to crumble, we can trust in God’s unchanging character. He has proven His wisdom and faithfulness throughout the ages. He is more than worthy of our trust.
We make mountains out of mole hills, but only God can make mole hills out of mountains (Isaiah 54:10). Trusting God requires that we walk by faith and not by sight. This ensures that we don’t fall apart when the cares of this world cause us to worry. God’s mercy and grace are available to us 24/7. God loves us so much that He sent His only begotten Son to suffer and die for us. Why would He do that and then hang us out to dry in the world’s mess? We are His beloved. We are heirs of royal priesthood because of God’s goodness.
If we can’t trust God with our bills, how will we ever trust Him with our eternal salvation? Phil 4:19 states that God shall supply all of our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. We must trust Him to do just that, not just in the prosperous times, but in lean times as well. When our jobs and finances are uncertain, we can be certain of God’s provision. When the economy takes a dive, we can be certain of God’s provision. Why? Because it says so in His Word and God is not a man that he should lie, nor the son of man that He should repent. Every word is true. We just need to believe it, receive it, and walk in it.
